“In Patio, Virginia Jakim constructs a material poem dedicated to gardens and their silent rebellion: those that inhabit the external world and those we slowly cultivate within ourselves. The series is born from her professional experience in corporate interior landscaping and her growing artistic practice, carried out in her studio located in a vast area of communal gardens in Berlin. The production inevitably blends with memories of the patios of her childhood in Buenos Aires. The work employs the projection of shadows as a central gesture: just as in gardens, the passage from day to night transforms perspectives, sounds, and presences, the pieces activate a change of atmosphere where the visible shifts and the latent emerges.

This transition also reflects a migrant experience: between Buenos Aires and Berlin, between corporate work and independent practice, between industrial production and manual labor. A vital displacement that permeates the work and redefines the form and meaning of each object. Bent pipes furniture, cast iron objects, parasols, dripping rust, sun-faded plastic, mosquitoes, fireflies, plucking petals from a flower, the shadow of plants projected on the wall, the halo of a lantern, untangling a waterhose to get wet—this domestic and fragmentary landscape is condensed in the materials with which Virginia grows a garden.”
