Toys ‘R’ Us
Developed between 2018 and 2020 , “Toys ‘R’ us” is a body of work that reflects on possessions, desires and childish positions we embody, either naïve, selfish or imposed by others. Lack of agency and consequences as punishment are some of the topics brought to the table by this series of objects. This group of wearable pieces propose exalted reality: “In which kind of world or situation would this object be worn?”, we speculate. With an exaggerated and iconic language, referring to that of toys, this collection has a tongue-in-cheek tone that suddenly has a fun-house-mirror effect under further analysis: a comment on our distorted relationship with objects and the infantile needs we sometimes try to fulfil with them.
